Atelier Live Workshop with Justin Donaldson

August 29-31 : 10am-1pm ET daily

Justin Donaldson joins East Oaks Studio for a workshop exploring landscape painting in gouache. Over four days, we will build an approach to plein air painting and an understanding of gouache, learning how gouache shifts in value and saturation, and develop strategies to predict these shifts in order to master the medium. We will work on abstracting the complexity of painting natural scenes in order to find clarity, and will focus on strategies to effectively paint an accurate impression in a changing environment. 

Session 1: Pre-recorded plein air painting content.

Session 2: An introduction to gouache. Abstraction and finding clarity amidst confusion. 

Session 3: Practical strategies for working quickly and accurately. 

Session 4: Working on advanced layering, balancing, and finishing projects.
