Timothy Rees joins East Oaks Studio for an intimate 4-day workshop as he presents his unique, color forward method of painting figures. Participants will learn how to navigate the complexity of the human form, balancing the articulation of anatomy against the vivid color of impressionist painting to marriage the two traditionally separate schools of thought.
The workshop will dive into a system of color mixing that breaks away from formulaic skin tone mixing and focuses on replication of any observed color. Concepts of light and optics as they fall on the skin will guide observation and bolster dynamic color effects. This approach to color mixing is suitable for any level, even those with no prior color experience. Those with experience will learn to hone their precision and speed to the next level. This facility with color will allow students to, in turn, focus onto the challenge of anatomy.
Participants will gain an understanding of overall anatomical proportions and relationships of smaller divisions of anatomy. Then, through the exploration of superficial anatomy, participants will confidently marriage understanding of the human form with striking color and descriptive brush work.

The morning demonstration of Timothy’s workshop will be available virtually through Atelier Live, where participants can tune-in to watch in real time and ask questions, or watch the recording later in their own time.
